The comments section is a side repository that exists on top of the web page. It's a feed of all the Highlights made on the site, as well as comments and conversation that happens as a result of multiple people visiting the page. The comments should:

• Allow the user to save context for future reading.
• Allow an additional layer of indexing to help users find previously visited sites
• Let the user communicate with other users reading the same content async
• Not interrupt the flow of reading content on the native page.

UI/UX

The comments section will likely look similar to a slack thread, where people can make messages (in our case comments), which renders all types on annotations in line, starting with Highlights. Some notes:

• Inverse has an interesting overlay on top of the existing page. It notes which page you're on, and shows all "threads" or conversations happening on the page. This is a great way to share, store, and permeate context. The UI is a little weak, and the thread system should look more like slack's. The second image might be an interesting way in which the user sees context quickly through the Groups

• This is a screenshot of slack's conversation inside of a thread. Each highlight (like in a google doc/notion) should generate a new message, or a user can generate a new one. The thread system allows for reactions, context, and adding non text relevancy. Examples of non text context might be Screenshots, other images, reactions, links, etc.

• The user, either through a button, short cut, or Action Bar, should be able to toggle the comments system on or off. It likely makes sense that the Highlights toggling and the Comments toggling are connected, if not exactly the same.
• In lieu of a dedicated Screenshots app from Sail or a Clipboard, we're going to let users place screenshots and images in line as a comment, very similar to slack. The key is to allow the user to overlay text (if they want)
• Allow apps to create a new type of comment, add context and color, graphics, etc.
• The user, on the top right corner in lieu of where "Sail" is in inverse, the user can toggle which stack's annotations they are viewing (with a preview of number of annotations), a view all collection mode, as well as defaulting to the last interacted collection for said file.
